CBM warns manufacturing can’t afford ‘Burnham to be all at Sea!’

Don’t just tell us you support manufacturing. Show us.”

CBM President Stephen Morley has called on new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to turn positive rhetoric around UK industry into tangible support on the factory floor.

Speaking as the Labour Party Conference takes place in Liverpool, Steve says manufacturers need certainty and an Industrial Strategy that delivers where it matters: competitive energy prices, the right skills, proportionate regulation and a planning system that supports investment.

His message is clear. UK manufacturers are resilient, innovative and ready to invest, but SMEs need the right environment to compete, grow, employ people and export.

Steve said:

“Management teams can deal with difficult decisions. What they struggle with is uncertainty.”

“If the new government genuinely wants growth, then it needs to understand where growth actually comes from: businesses investing, employing people, exporting and making things that the rest of the world wants to buy.”

Representing around 200 members and the interests of 75,000 employees across UK metalforming, CBM will continue to make the case for a manufacturing environment that allows businesses throughout the supply chain to compete and grow.

Steve’s message to the Prime Minister:

“Don’t just tell us you support manufacturing. Show us!”
